Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of papers of Melech Epstein from ca. 1964-1978. The papers include Epstein's writings, research, books and other printed materials, much of it pertaining to Marxism, Communism, and related topics. The papers also include photographs, memoirs, and correspondence relating to the publication of his writings and to personal matters particularly his involvement in activities concerning the welfare of Jews in America.

Biographical Note

Melech Epstein (1889-1979), author and journalist, was born in Byelorussia and moved to the United States in 1913. He was a member of the Communist party until 1939 and edited the Yiddish Communist daily, Die Freiheit.
