Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the personal papers of Margaret Anne Barnes relating mainly to the publication of her books and the screen adaptation of Murder in Coweta County . The papers include writings, audio interviews, photographs, research files, printed material by and about Margaret Anne Barnes, and correspondence. The collection includes multiple drafts of each of her books as well as screenplays of The Murder in Coweta County . Audio interviews in this collection are with individuals involved in the murder cases Barnes describes in The Murder in Coweta County and The Tragedy and the Triumph of Phenix City . Photographs and research files also document places, people, and events in these two books. Research files include newspaper clippings, notes, and copies of legal files such as depositions related to the Phenix City case and court transcripts from the John Wallace trial. Printed material in this collection mostly consists of newspaper clippings about Barnes and her books.
