Scope and Content Note
Collection consists of a subject file on the United States Army 43rd General Hospital, also known as the Emory Unit, apparently maintained by persons involved in the production of the Emory Alumnus magazine. Subject file contains correspondence and dispatches from officers serving in the Emory Unit during World War II at Camp Livingston, La., and in Algeria, Italy, and southern France. There are also clippings, unit rosters, and a few photographs and publications. Contents are particularly concerned with Emory alumni serving with the unit, hospital conditions, social activities, and marriages.
Persons represented in the collection include Emory Unit officers, R. B. Stevenson and Joseph H. Boland, and persons associated with the Emory Alumnus magazine and the Emory Alumni Association, Elizabeth C. Duncan and Robert F. Whitaker, among others.

Administrative History
The 43rd General Hospital of the United States Army in World War II, also known as the Emory Unit, consisted of doctors and nurses, many from Emory University and Georgia, who served in Algeria, Italy, and southern France. The unit was trained at Camp Livingston, La. The Emory Unit, then 43rd Base Hospital of the United States Army, also served in France in World War I.
